Leadership & Team Building

Not only have I edited and published 150 articles, but I have also written two of my own each month. I feel that as an Editor-in-Chief you can only lead and edit your staff writers’ works if you also grow your own skills through writing. By writing my own articles each month, the staff is able to feel like they can rely on me when it comes to editing articles with accuracy while being able to see that their editor is not just a figure, but also a writer like them. I witnessed the fact that this released a new team dynamic within Charger Press. One of our staff writers took it upon herself to write about me as an individual who inspires her for an essay contest. Within this piece, she states that it was pivotal for her to see a woman of color (myself) in a position of leadership in which my passion was reflected.

When it comes to creating a team, I felt it was necessary for us to have a way of communicating and recognizing each other’s accomplishments. I created a Google Classroom for Charger Press where a plethora of information regarding the club is uploaded so that all of our staff has access to documents they need to edit, and also so that they all can see each others’ accomplishments through our everchanging article tracker. In addition to the Google Classroom, I also aid in running the Remind group for Charger Press. This is where we post updates and let our writers know when we post new articles. It is important to keep the energy of our community high so that each individual knows they are appreciated.
